研究
研究テーマ
専門はメディア論と異文化コミュニケーションです。現在、特に関心があるのは、疫病、自然災害、経済的困窮、政治的抑圧といった問題に直面した人々が、身近な資源を使って、噂、流行歌、落書き、民話などの「戦術的メディア」を構築し、困難に挑む現象です。タイの大学に提出した修士論文では、地元メディアでHIV感染者がどのように報道されているのかをレトリックの面から分析し、オーストラリアの大学で行った博士論文研究では、タイ北部での2年間の現地調査をもとに、HIV感染者とその支援者たちが、生き残りのための知恵を生み出すプロセスを調査しました。その他にも、「語り」が果たす社会的役割や、タイ、日本を中心に、アジアのメディア産業の動向も追っています。
