TMU has established its first overseas office in Bangkok.

Tokyo Metropolitan University (President: Fumio Harashima) has established its first overseas office in Bangkok with the purpose of increasing its presence by strengthening global cooperation with universities and other institutions in the ASEAN.

Purpose of the establishment of the Bangkok office

TMU aims to use the Bangkok office as an activity base to strengthen global cooperation and increase its presence in the ASEAN by promoting activities such as cooperative education, joint research, and business-academia collaboration with universities and other institutions in Thailand and other countries in the ASEAN, joint hosting of international symposiums, public relations with the purpose of attracting competent students in the ASEAN, and establishment of alumni associations as a follow-up for foreign students who have returned to their home countries.

Opening ceremony

On April 23, 2014, Tokyo Metropolitan University President Fumio Harashima and Chulalongkorn University President Pirom Kamolratanakul cut the ribbon to start the opening ceremony of the Bangkok office as people related to the two universities watched. Then, at venues at the adjacent hotel, the two university presidents, people related to the two universities, people related to Japanese Embassy in Thailand, Thailand office of the Japan Student Services Organization, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Bangkok Office. The Japan Foundation, Bangkok, and other institutions, and people related to over 10 Bangkok offices of Japanese universities attended receptions and information exchange meetings.
