In August 2026, we visited the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Botswana, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria to promote Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) to local high school students and others in preparation for the launch of T-GLIPs and the Faculty of Global Innovation and Development (GLIDe). We held information sessions for high school students and their parents and visited local high schools.
At the sessions and school visits, Dr. Oussouby Sacko, who has strong ties with African countries, gave presentations on TMU’s initiatives and the features of T-GLIPs and GLIDe. We received considerable interest from local students, many of whom had questions about studying in Japan, admissions, and the academic programs.
Additionally, we visited Daystar University in Kenya and the University of Botswana in Botswana and exchanged views with university representatives. We also visited the Embassy of Japan in Kenya, the Embassy of Japan in Botswana, the JSPS Nairobi Research Station, and the Ministry of Higher Education of Botswana to share information on local higher education and study abroad trends.
This visit provided a valuable opportunity to promote TMU to students in the Global South and to engage with local universities and related organizations.
