On March 15, 2024, the Graduate School of Science at Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN) formalized an agreement aimed at fostering joint research initiatives and facilitating student exchange programs.
This agreement was the culmination of a series of collaborative discussions and visits to IITGN by TMU faculty and staff. These efforts were initially spurred by the visit of Yuriko Koike, the Governor of Tokyo, to India in July of the previous year.
The signing ceremony was conducted online under the auspices of TMU President Professor Takaya Ohashi. The agreement was signed by Professor Hiro-o Tokunaga, Dean, Graduate School of Science at TMU, and Surya P. Mehrotra, Faculty in-charge, Dean of External Relations at IITGN. IITGN Director Professor Rajat Moona was in attendance remotely due to unforeseen business commitments.
Looking ahead, both institutions have pledged to establish a robust partnership, with a particular focus on faculty and student exchanges, the sharing of academic information, and collaboration in the field of chemistry research.
