EURAXES Science Slam Japan 2015 was held on October 23, 2015 at Tokyo Metropolitan University.
Science Slam is a presentation forum where researchers present their own research work briefly in front of a non-expert audience. What is important is that participants present their work in an accessible and entertaining way. The audience has a discussion in groups after each presentation and votes as a group for the winner at the end of all the presentations.
At EURAXESS Science Slam Japan 2015, all five Slammers, who won pre-event at each university or got qualified at pre-contest, gave great performances. The audience had a tough time ranking them, yet eventually Mr. Muhammad FAJAR, from Tokyo Institute of Technology, won the first prize! EURAXESS will cover his trip to European Research Institution. Mr. Shogo MATSUMOTO, the 1st year Master student from the TMU Graduate School of Urban Environmental Sciences won second place.
The audience from diverse backgrounds, consisting with students, staff and faculty members, and researchers from TMU and other institutions, enjoyed active and lively discussion on each performance. TMU students participated in commented, “I don’t like and am terrible with English, but I was surprised how much I could enjoy the Slam!” and “We would love to see TMU Science Slam again!”
