SAKURA Exchange Program in Science “Experience Advanced Techniques of Water、 Environment and Nursing for Life” was held in TMU

Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) invited 9 students of the University of Saint La Salle (USLS) and a lecturer to Japan from October 25th to November 3rd. This program “SAKURA Exchange Program in Science 2015” was an international academic program supported from Japan Science and Technology Agency(JST) to introduce them to Japanese technologies and to offer an opportunity to discuss with Japanese students on the future of science and technology.

The participants experienced a lot during these 10 days. During university tour、 they visited 14 laboratories in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering、 Department of Biology and Faculty of Health Science.

During field tour、 they observed first-hand the actual technologies used in Japan. For example、(1) Mizubeno-sono welfare facility for the aged as a nursing site、 (2)  Ogouchi reservoir and Higashimurayama Water Purification Plant for water resource management、 and (3) Tsurumi Recycling Plant and Yokohama sewage treatment Plant for waste management. For nature and culture、 the participants visited Sengen Shrine、 Freshwater Aquarium and Mt. Fuji、 and eat different kinds of Japanese food.

Regardless of what their academic specializations are、 they all actively participated in the program and asked questions eagerly anywhere they go. Their attitude toward this program was very impressive for us. They also taught TMU students the importance of the international exchange. Japanese students are very shy、 but the participants planted the tree of international exchange in the hearts of TMU students. This 10-day international exchange program was fantastic for all people.

*** Letter of the gratitude from a USLS student ***

In behalf of "your" students、 I just want to inform you that we have arrived in our homeland safely.

Sensei、 my heart is full of gratitude as I go back here in the Philippines. My experience in my 10 day stay at TMU is like autumn leaves、 so vibrant and colorful. Despite the coolness of the season、 your warm welcome and accommodation had balanced everything perfectly.

Sensei、 the 10-day JST student exchange program will always be remembered in my heart forever. I am truly amazed not only by your technology but also your culture. It made me want to stay and live there.
